RTM1 TO AIR SABAH, SARAWAK NEWS DURING PRIME TIME

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- RTM1 which becomes a dedicated news channel from Jan 1 next year, will air news from Sabah and Sarawak for half an hour during prime time.

Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek who announced this Sunday, said prime time was between 8pm and 11pm during which many people watch television. Presently, RTM1 airs regional news at 5pm.

Speaking to reporters in Kampung Ketiau near here, he said RTM1 would also introduce a 30-minute weekly ethnic programme from Sabah and Sarawak.

"We will highlight the unique arts, languages and cultures of the various races in Sabah and Sarawak like Kadazandusun, Murut, Iban and Bidayuh."

All these are part of the digitalising process where one day we will have many channels and the channels will dedicate to certain fields," he said.

He also did not discount the possibility of RTM having special regional channels in the future not only for viewers in Sabah and Sawarak but also nationwide.
